Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 7/16 inches (3.65 cm) in height overall consisting of a white-capped blue cone, apex at the top, bearing a pair of conjoined white wings elevated and upper tips arched around a gold disc all in front of a light blue cloud symbol, across the top surmounting all, a doubled gold scroll bearing the inscription "PEAK OF" above, and "PERFORMANCE" below in blue letters.

Symbolism
Blue and gold are used for Aviation.  The Battalion's activated in Colorado is represented by the white-capped mountain (alluding to Pikes Peak) extending above the clouds, and the gold disc from the Colorado State flag.  The scroll arched across the peak connotes the spirit of the motto.  The elevated wings signify the unit's readiness for swift performance of its aviation mission.  The wings together with the disc also allude to the numerical designation of the organization.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 October 1967.

NOTE:  This Battalion was never authorized a coat of arms.
